At a grand opening celebration on May 14, Castello® hosted an epicurean evening featuring celebrity chef Michael Symon, noted food sculptors Jim Victor and Marie Pelton, as well as more than 100 local media and guests. Attendees were treated to samplings of premium Castello® cheeses, perfectly paired with City Winery wines and gourmet products sold in store.
Symon, whose passion for culinary innovation is also a Castello® hallmark, has delivered several creatively crafted recipes featuring specialty cheeses available at the store. Everyday cooks can create a burger worthy of a gourmet chef with Castello® Burger Blue and Symon’s “Fun Guy” recipe; or, grill masters can use Creamy Havarti to top his SOBEWFF People’s Choice Award-winning “Fat Doug” burger. Symon uses Castello® Crumbled Blue to top his exquisite lamb medallions, while Alps Selection Hirten augments his shaved fennel salad.
The Cheesemonger Challenge, a multisensory blind tasting of three Castello® cheeses, offered guests the chance to test and delight their palate. The Castello® Cheesemonger Challenge is available in store to all interested customers.
Guests also marveled at a selection of special occasion cheese “cakes,” crafted entirely from Castello® cheese wheels and premium edible décor, only available for sale at the Castello® New York Pop-up Store.
Sculptors Victor and Pelton unveiled a sculpture of the iconic New York City skyline, carved entirely by hand from wheels of Castello® Alps Selection Hirten cheese. The skyline will be on display at the Pop-up Store through June 3. From June 4-6, and again June 18-20, Victor and Pelton will be at the Store carving new sculptures of famous New York City landmarks out of Hirten cheese.
Food lovers who visit the Castello® New York Pop-up Store will find even more gourmet cheese experiences, plus a variety of items for purchase that celebrate the art of cheese.
