GrevéA sweet, flavourful Swedish cheese
First produced in the mid-1960s, Grevé is relatively new. It was created by two Swedish dairy producers in response to the introduction of Norway’s Jarlsberg cheese in the 1950’s. A smooth cheese with large holes throughout, Grevé is most commonly eaten on sandwiches but is equally at home on the cheese board. The mature varieties, aged up to 18 months, also work well in cooking. Although Grevé is characteristically sweet, nutty, and mild when young, aging produces a more bitter, umami-rich, acidic flavour with a long aftertaste. Serve with dried fruit, nuts, and dark beer.
