Roasted chickpeas with Traditional Danish Blue and cocoa

A palate challenging snack - our recipe for Roasted Chickpeas with Blue Cheese & Cocoa is list of strange sounding combinations that somehow actually work. Honey, cinnamon and cocoa will take your flavours in a sweet direction, while blue cheese, olive oil, sea salt and the chickpeas will keep the snack savoury.

Umami Salty


  • 2 cans of chickpeas (480 g.)
  • ½ tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp acacia honey
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp cocoa powder
  • sea salt
  • 85 g Castello® Traditional Danish Blue, crumbled into small pieces


Preheat oven to 190°c. Add the chickpeas to a sieve and separate the water. Rinse the chickpeas thoroughly under cold water and then dry them in a tea towel. Spread the chickpeas on baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake them in the oven for about 45 minutes or until crisp.

Mix the chickpeas, while they are warm with oil, honey, cinnamon and cocoa - give them an additional 10 minutes in the oven.

Leave the chickpeas to cool and mix them with Castello Traditional Danish Blue.
